Words from Darren

AS CLOSE AS WE GET TO SUMMER...

This Sunday!

Sunday School
HS at 8am is off and running. We’re making our way through Luke. Stacey is taking charge this week while I’m on vacation.

UMYF
This Sunday is New Life we’re heading to East Whittier UMC for a cool skateboard show with a professional skater that has a great witness. We’ll gather about 2:30 and be back by 8pm. It’s a little earlier event because it’s so far north. We wanted to get everyone home in time. Bring some $ for a donation as well as for dinner on the way home.

Coming up...

June 8 – Grad Sunday
We’ll be celebrating our graduates this day; both in the morning in worship and at UMYF that night. So keep the date in mind.

June 21-22 – Relay 4 Life
So we’ve started our march to the Relay 4 Life. This is our event to raise funds for cancer and cancer research. It’s a cause that really affects us all. The event is June 21-22 where we take a team to walk the track at Saddleback College for 24 straight hours. We don’t go all at once, we take turns and have fun with it. If you know someone who’s dealt with cancer, this will be a very meaningful event for you.

More about Relay 4 Life
Darren is doing a fund raiser for cancer with the youth group. It should be pretty fun with camping on the football field of Saddleback College. But It's been humbling to listen to the issues around the event. There isn't too much controversy here, cancer's just bad.

The event is explained below. I'd really appreciate your giving a bit. The link to my page is below. Thanks in advance!

Can you believe that more than 1.3 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year? Those are staggering statistics, but there is hope. Each of us can do something to save lives and help those already fighting this disease. That's why I've decided to take action against cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® event right here in my community.

Relay For Life is an overnight event that brings our community together to help support the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. The Society works hard every day to prevent cancer and save lives by supporting groundbreaking research, affecting public policies that protect us from cancer, and educating people on how to prevent or detect cancer early. The Society helps people with cancer right here in our own community. And our efforts at Relay For Life can help the American Cancer Society to keep working toward a cancer-free future.

I want to invite you to show your support in the ongoing fight against cancer by joining us for this year's event. Please click on the link below for more information, including details on the inspirational Survivors' Lap and the moving Luminaria Ceremony. We hope to see you there! If you can't join us, will you please visit the site and make a donation to support our efforts? Either way, you will make a real difference in the lives of people facing cancer and in the lives of the people who love them. Thank you!

Notes for Parents

Time Change for JH--We're going to shorten the JH youth time to 90 minutes. This seems to be enough for them. And gives the HS a little more time to get into their program.

Surf Camp
Our connection to Pendleton is not working and we need one for reserving space for our Surf Camp. If you have military connections, please let me know so that we can get a reservation there for August!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
