Shepherd of the Hills Preschool was established in 1971 as a mission of the United Methodist Church. The school started as a half-day morning program with only four classrooms. It continues to be a wonderful community preschool with great teacher/child ratios and filled with Christian nurture. Each year the wait list grew longer and longer. In 1983 “Shepherd Hall” was completed and two more classrooms were added. By this time there were afternoon programs, Lunch Bunch Programs and a Jr. Kindergarten. Special programs were offered such as our “extended Monday or Wednesday” program which is a literacy based program with a science and math element. In 1999 the preschool began accreditation process and was validated in 2000 by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This is the highest honor a preschool can attain in the United States.
Shepherd of the Hills Preschool has always demonstrated high-quality education and our staff is the primary reason. We have a highly trained and lovely staff with over 250 years of experience teaching young children. Most of our staff has taught at Shepherd of the Hills over ten years and some over twenty. We have now taught the children of the first children in our program! Our vision does not stop here. We are looking to the future and are dreaming of new buildings and adding a Kindergarten program by 2010.
